Bet, watch and track live sports in one place

Live betting in the FanDuel Sportsbook app. I led design for the in-game experience: the scoreboard, the Track Live visualization, and a stats overlay where every play and every box score line is something you can bet on.

01 · The problem

Bettors were watching the game somewhere else

During a live game, the Sportsbook app was where you placed a bet and nowhere you wanted to stay. Scores lagged, there was no sense of what had just happened, and the markets were a long list with no link to the action. People bet, then switched to a scores app or the broadcast, and came back late or not at all.

Goal

Keep bettors in the app for the whole game, and put the next bet next to the play that prompts it.

Two measures, tracked together: time in app during live games, and in-play bets per session.

What we heard
  1. "I bet, then I leave."Nothing on the game page changed fast enough to be worth watching.
  2. "What just happened?"A score moved and the user had no idea why, or who did it.
  3. "Where is the bet for that?"A hot player meant scrolling a market list to find a prop.
Constraints
  1. Data latency.Plays, scores and odds arrive on different feeds at different speeds.
  2. Readability at pace.Basketball stats change every few seconds and still have to read at a glance.
  3. Getting Stats noticed.A sheet behind a button is easy to miss, so the entry point had to earn a tap.

One game page, two overlays

Everything lives on the game page. Track Live expands inside it and Stats slides up over it, so a bettor never leaves the markets to watch or check the numbers. Every bet starts from the same bet slip.

03 · Track Live

A broadcast you can hold in one hand

Track Live expands the scoreboard into an animated court. Each play draws on the floor as it happens, the last play reads underneath, and a stat callout follows the player who made it. I designed and animated the full system for basketball: court, markers, play types and player cards.

Numbers you can bet on

Box scores and play-by-play live one tap from the markets, so bettors stay in the product instead of leaving to check a stats app. Each line carries its bet, giving them the confidence to act quickly while the game is live.

05 · My Action

Back to your bets, and bet again

My Action is built for re-betting. It lists only the live games you already have money on, with the current markets right under the score, so a bettor can get back to a game in one tap and double down or hedge without hunting for it.

06 · Outcome

Shipped to every FanDuel Sportsbook user

The game page, Track Live and the Stats overlay shipped in the FanDuel Sportsbook app across every state where FanDuel operates, and Track Live became the pattern for other sports.

What changed for bettors
  1. A reason to stay.The score, the play and the court update in place, so the app is the second screen.
  2. Context for every bet.Plays and box scores carry their markets, so the bet is one tap from the moment.
What I owned
  1. Research and the brief.Interviews and session reviews with live bettors.
  2. IA, flows and UI.The game page, both overlays and the market patterns.
  3. Motion.The Track Live animation system, delivered as specs and prototypes to engineering.
What I would do next
  1. A livelier court.More interactivity and richer animation for plays on the floor.
  2. Deeper stats.More in-depth numbers for both pre-live and live events.
